Achillea
We've all seen the wild white achillea (yarrow) that grows on the side of the road. That's a good clue to the cultural requirements of this hardy perennial. It flourishes in hot, dry soil in a sunny spot--imagine how well it does in good garden loam.
I love this perennial. It comes in dozens of colors; and it is available short, medium, or tall so it can fit in anywhere. The foliage is generally greenish gray and lacy, and it thrives on neglect. The millefolium type spreads readily to make large seas of color in the garden, and many types dry well for long-lasting flower arrangements.
